18-19 June 2018, Collège de France, Paris : Symposium: “Revisiting solidarity in Europe”
For a critical and considered approach to the scenarios imagined by the European Commission, it is of the essence to take account of the diversity of representations of the European crisis in its Member States. One of the most obvious weaknesses of the Union is indeed that there is no place in it for European public debate, and instead it juxtaposes national debates. After having drawn up an assessment of the solidarity implemented at the European scale in a number of key fields (such as the migration issue, financial risks, taxation, public services or employment), the conference will thus aim to report on national debates on the European institutions and to measure the relative weight in each country of the return to national solidarities and of the call to stronger European solidarity. In addition, the symposium will be an opportunity to compare some of the plans put forward in certain countries for exiting the crisis.
